Secondary education

Latvia‘s capacity to develop a robust photonics industry and research depends on the number of students that study STEM fields, particularly physics, chemistry and math.

We work with government agencies, teachers associations, schools, industry and local governments to encourage STEM education. Specific measures include the Photonics Researchers’ Night project Light4Future.

We are currently working on a mentoring program to pair students with ideas for research or technologies with researchers (including retired researchers with the intent that the researcher would mentor the student under the guidance of his or her teacher.
